The Road to Emmàus
The director and producer of Ballet Emmaus is Greta Leverett. Mrs. Leverett has been training dancers for over 30 years, having a background as a performer and choreographer.
Born in Los Angeles, she trained in the Russian tradition with legendary Russian ballerina Irina Kosmovska and danced with her Los Angeles ballet company. She went on to dance and teach for Southern California's Anaheim Ballet for 15 years.
In her early 20's Greta dedicated her life to Jesus Christ. Soon after she met and married her husband Norman Scott Leverett.
After her conversion and with her husband's encouragement, she launched a solo worship dance ministry. She has ministered throughout the United States at numerous churches and many worship conferences.
Some of these include the National Conference on Christian Dance in Dallas, the International Worship Symposium in Los Angeles, Feast of Tabernacle Conferences, Many Nation One Voice Conferences and the American Baptist Holy Spirit Conference.
Mrs . Leverett has also taught and continues to teach worship dance workshops for various churches. She holds a worship dance teaching certification from Ballet Magnificat, the world's leading Christian ballet company.
In 1998, after raising three children in Southern California, Norman and Greta felt called to move north to the beautiful redwoods and coastline of Humboldt County, California. There in 1999 they established Trinity Ballet Academy. The studio has since served the county with quality dance training . Trinity Ballet Academy is the home base for Ballet Emmaus.
Greta's beloved husband Norman went home to the Lord September 22, 2020. A valiant man of God and an Air Force veteran , he not only was her business partner but shared her vision for Ballet Emmaus. That vision was conceived in 2014.
Inspired by several young believers in their dance studio, the Leveretts had seen the potential to create a skilled ballet troupe that would reveal the Grace of our Lord through dance.
As Greta began creating worship dances for that group of dancers the pieces were included in Trinity Ballet Academy's repertoire for several years. In 2020 Norman and Greta saw that it was time for the worship group to be a separate company.
The name Ballet Emmaus comes from the noted Road to Emmaus passage in the Gospels where two disciples had a revelatory encounter with Jesus after his resurrection. The hope is that through the dances Ballet Emmaus presents, believers and non-believers alike will have a fresh revelation of our Lord.
Despite Norman's passing into heaven in late 2020, the vision of Ballet Emmaus was born on September 11, 2021 with the production Beauty For Ashes. It was both a tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11 and to all who serve and are serving our country, including Norman.
